Tiny Box Maker has been around since 2016, when Tiny Box Company bought a factory in Cornwall that was previously known as The Box Office. Tiny Box Company itself began in 2007 with CEO and founder Rachel Watkyn’s search for recycled packaging for her range of ethical and fair trade jewellery. She decided to start up her own packaging company - Tiny Box Company - which then acquired successful investment through Dragons’ Den, and both Dragons - Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis - are still active shareholders.

Tiny Box Maker is one of just a handful of rigid box making factories left in the UK, specialising in using sustainable materials to make high-end cardboard presentation boxes, bespoke gift boxes, and corporate gift boxes. Here, we look at how the boxes are made, shining a spotlight on the incredible work of the team.

Custom bespoke packaging

Based in Redruth, Cornwall, Tiny Box Maker produces beautiful handmade boxes for a range of global brands and UK businesses. With an extensive design range and over 50 combined years of experience in the industry, the team works closely with clients to design and deliver whatever they need, from simple boxes with separate lids, flap lid boxes, shoulder boxes, to book style boxes.

Customers can choose from a range of box styles, internal designs, and branding options to create the perfect packaging for them, with a range of semi-bespoke products also available. Custom boxes range in thickness from 1,250 microns to 3,000 microns, with the option of black, white, or printed lining for their interiors. Extras include card and foam inserts, satin lining for extra elegance, and sleeves and belly bands that go around the box and can be printed on too.

The quality of every single box is managed in the factory, and Tiny Box Maker can work within all budgets and cash flows, maintaining honesty, competitive pricing, and reliable delivery. Manufacturing in the UK also means the factory has a very low carbon footprint, with a focus on sustainability across the whole business - for example, only vegan cold glue is used in production. There is also a range of different printing options available at Tiny Box Maker to personalise and brand bespoke packaging, adding a luxury finish and helping businesses stand out from the crowd. Foil printing is carried out in-house, with digital or litho print options also available.

- The process

Tiny Box Maker specialises in creating bespoke boxes, with an experienced team to help navigate clients through the process, whether they’re looking for year-round repeat products or one off dynamic promotional, gift, or presentation items.

Six machines are set up to make the boxes, which are required regardless of the quantity being made. The initial set-up cost will therefore be the same whether 1 or 1,000 boxes have been ordered.

The Cornwall factory operates a comprehensive production plan and stringent quality control procedures, to ensure presentation boxes or corporate gift boxes are made perfectly, on time.

Bespoke packaging lead times are usually around 3-4 weeks and Tiny Box Maker aims to respond to all quote requests within 24 hours of receiving them.
